she's back (to writing again)
I have ditched social media, and feel a draw to write again. Imagine that.
Much has changed in me since I last wrote here in 2023. Some much most of it makes me cringe, like those awkward teenage pictures do (especially for all of us Gen Xers. Ha! What's up with kids nowadays not having the awkward stage!?).
Awkward or not, there won't be any rewriting of my blog history. I hope that, if and when people engage with what I process here, the subtle changes will make you curious to reach out to me directly if you can't figure them out.
But in true Sara, overly transparent style...
The husband is serving in law enforcement (FYI, reinventing yourself at 50 in this context is next-level hardcore. I have epic respect for my man! Loving him through this kind of change has been a gift worth receiving, many times over).
We are empty nesters now, and after 30-plus years of parenting that started in my teens, straight out of the newly married gate, it is a really big deal.
I have taken on leadership in ministry (both professionally and within the local church context). It's extra strange for this girl to take on the responsibility she would gladly pass off to someone else more qualified. Sigh.
Our family has expanded! The newest member is the cutest (a granddaughter!), and another long-term relationship is becoming official in just over a week (wedding bells!).
I turned fifty this year. Funny though, that just puts a number on what has been happening for many, many years. Hahaha!
However, the biggest changes are deep inside my head and heart, and the ones I hope to platform the most in this space. Please come curious - if you plan to stay.
Covenant theology has forever changed how I understand the Scriptures God has given me deep affection for.
I have come to a place of rest in my walk with the Lord, my soul yearned for, but couldn't label with words. "Orthodoxy precedes orthopraxy" seems like the best way to say that without trying to say it in a ton of words.
I have finally begun to uncover an entire world of people who came before me in church history, and if I could only find more time, I would hide myself in a (revised modern-English) Puritan book each and every day.
The law and gospel distinction is changing my life, every single part of my life, every single day.
I am at the precipice of understanding the Father's love for me.
Seven years after returning to the States, I am beginning to feel settled in relationships and even forming new friendships again. (Ditching social media really helped. Come on, friend, join me here!)
I look forward to sharing more of my head and heart with you guys here. Thanks for checking in.
