"Humph. It's not that simple."

I love when God uses my kids to minister to me and to build my faith. I can see God working in their lives and that gives me more hope than words can really do justice fumbling to explain.

Earlier this week, Marty's sister, Angela called to tell us what God had accomplished for our five year old niece, Madison. Madison prayed before school that God would let her be the line leader for the day. When Angela picked Madison up from school, Madison was beaming and told her all about how God had heard and answered her prayer. She was line leader! Jade of course over heard the story and like always was right in the middle of the action. :) Her reaction surprised us though. She snickered a bit and responded with a Jade-like attitude, "Humph. It's not that simple." We asked Jade what she meant and she went on with that same Jade-ness, explaining quite cynically that God answering prayers was just not that easy because she has prayed for a new partner so that we can go to PNG and God hasn't answered her prayer.

Well, what do you say to that... In as simple words as I could find I tried to make sure she understood about God's timing, love, plans, etc... I encouraged her to continue to pray believing, reassuring her that God does hear and does answer our prayers, but He is the only one who knows when and how. I explained how He wants us to keep talking and trusting Him. And as quickly as the conversation started it also ended, and so off to bed she went. This night, however she was sure to remember to once again pray for a new partner.

Imagine how excited we were to wake her up in the morning to tell her that God had answered her prayer right away and we had a new partner to sign up online while she was sleeping. She was ecstatic that we were now one step closer and one answered prayer closer to PNG. And so was I.

God's timing is hard to understand. For Jade. And for me. Just like I carefully tried to explain to Jade, I know that He continues to slowly and carefully with love and grace reveal to me what His plan is. This simple prayer from a six year old built up her faith, and renewed mine as well. What a blessing.
