Jade's true grit

Deluxe.

Those are just a few of the extremely random things that Jade is reading as we ride down the road. It's amazes me to think of how her entire world is coming alive. Just a few weeks ago all those words were randomly placed letters and complete nonsense to her. The other day I kept calling her back to class after a short break... but she was totally into a book. I think that tiny moment is forever blocked into my brain. Her wild hair hanging upside down off the edge of the couch. Her little lips silently moving as she read the red and white colored paper back phonics reader - oblivious to anything else the world had to offer - completely separated from reality - reading. Reading. Reading.

You know for the longest time I thought we would never tackle Jade learning to read. Never. It totally seemed like it was an insurmountable task. But here we are. She has tackled it, and moved way beyond what once (so shortly a time ago) seemed like something impossible.

God is teaching me all about persistence. This past week or more I have been reading daily devotionals from Chuck Swindoll. Today's title was "An Attitude of Strong Determination".

"At a time when many people in his place would be looking back in regret, wondering what life would have been like in a different profession, Paul repudiates the past and looks with confidence to the future. His strong determination kept him focused on the ultimate goal—pleasing Christ all the way to the goal, even in his chains. It's the picture of a runner running for the tape at the end of the race, straining forward in strong determination. Paul said, "I'm not looking back. I'm stretching for the prize." True grit on display."

That is what Jade and I have had together. Nothing was gonna keep us from moving forward together. Through tears some days. And high fives on others... always moving forward with determination. I thank God for giving me Jade to teach to read. Especially at this time in my life... walking this PD journey. What a precious reminder that there is an end in sight. That we won't be "stuck here" for forever. That though it seems impossible. God is bigger. There is an end to what we are living right now, and today I praise God for Jade's true grit as a testimony for my life!
