"Whom do you trust?"

"In times of trouble, may the Lord answer your cry.
May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.
May He send you help from His sanctuary
    and strengthen you from Jerusalem.
May He remember all your gifts
and look favorably on your burnt offerings.
May He grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.
May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory
and raise a victory banner in the name of our God.
May the Lord answer all your prayers.
Now I know that the Lord rescues His anointed king.
He will answer him from His holy heaven
and rescue him by His great power.
Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.
Give victory to our king, O Lord!
    Answer our cry for help."
Psalm 20 NLT

David most likely wrote this Psalm around the same life events as 2 Samuel 10. Life definitely wasn't peaches and cream, but David recognized that trust should be placed in the Lord more than in human power. Although David wasn't fleeing from Saul and hiding in caves and such, he was still battling (literally) through life. David was God's anointed and was gonna rule over all of Israel, but he sure had a long and tiring road until God's promise became his reality. Still though, no matter what happened along the way, David acknowledged God.

Oh, how I pray that Marty and I have a heart like David's. That no matter what happens next and how long it takes - we continue to acknowledge God through it all, and that through it all we will continue to call upon Him.

May He:
answer your cry
keep you safe from all harm
send you help
strengthen you
remember all your gifts
look favorably on your offerings
grant your heart's desires
make all your plans succeed
answer all your prayers
rescue you by His great power

We will:
shout for joy
raise a victory banner in the name of our God
boast in the name of the Lord
rise up
stand firm
give victory to our King

It does my heart such good to list things like this. To see, when my circumstances want to rule my reality, that He is the one with all the work to do. Our part in this journey is quite simple actually. Shout for joy. Raise a victory banner. Boast in His name. Rise up, stand firm and give victory to our King.

And I leave you with this (from my fantastic new NLT study Bible):

"As long as there have been armies and weapons, nations have boasted of their power, but such power does not last. Throughout history, empires and kingdoms have risen to great power only to vanish into dust. David, however, knew that the true might of his nation was not in weaponry but in worship, not in firepower but in God's power. Because God alone can preserve a nation or an individual, be sure your confidence is in God, who gives eternal victory. Whom do you trust?"
