commitment

Last Saturday was Jaars day. It happens only twice a year and is a fantastic way to get others involved and informed with what Wycliffe is doing around the globe. Something rather grand happened on that day... well I suppose that many grand things happened on that day. However, the one that impacted Marty and I most was not about what Jaars is doing.

Jason, a long time childhood friend of Marty's, attended that day with us. (Along with many other fabulous people that we love! If you are reading and were there - thank you for coming!!) Jason, his wife, and their sweet boys are supporters of ours. That is grand - very grand! - but still not what touched Marty and I so much.

The incredible work that God has done in Jason and his family's life was so sweetly evident, but it was combined with a powerful commitment to their partnership with us. Jason was a Marine until he suffered a injury to his knee that will no longer allow him to serve. I am not sure that there is a more committed soul on the planet than a Marine. I think that being a Marine will always be a part of who Jason is.

Jason shared a powerful expression of his commitment with our ministry with Wycliffe. He was talking with Marty about how he used to jump from helicopters onto hostel ground. The first person who jumped would secure a line with their own body weight that the others would then sorta like zip-line to safety on. (I am sure that I am not explaining this correctly, but I hope that my words will bring understanding.) The person securing the line was not only responsible for the team members jumping, but also for the entire helicopter and crew in the air. If the line was tangled in a tree branch the whole mission would crash and all would be lost... Jason used this analogy to tell Marty that he and his family wouldn't let go. They were committed to partnering with us. They wouldn't abandon us.

Did you get chill bumps? That is commitment boys and girls. That is grand.

Right now our partnership team is only in the very first stages of being formed... we aren't certain of who will join with us. But we praise the One who does! It is a struggle to wait when we know that our team is vitally needed. We know with absolute certainty what lies ahead... and can't wait to take that jump to Papua New Guinea. You can be a member of our team too... if you are lead by God to partner with us we anticipate great things together! Our partnership team (Jason and his family included!!) will continue to form. Tight. Committed. Secure to our Lifeline. Jesus.
